Jakarta – PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) kicked off a series of preparations for the design of the construction of Terminal 4 today, Friday 27 December 2019.
Following the kick off, PT Angkasa Pura II and KSO Karya Bersama Nusantara will formulate the overall design of Terminal 4 within the next 18 months, including technical planning design, financing structure and overall terminal operational arrangement design at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
KSO Karya Bersama Nusantara was the winner of the “Planning for Terminal 4 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport” consisting of PT Bina Karya – Yooshin Engineering Corporation – PT LAPI Divusi.
PT Angkasa Pura II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said after the design was agreed upon, construction of Terminal 4 would begin in mid-2021.
“Today there is a kick off design of the construction of Terminal 4, where later physical development will only be carried out in 2021 and completed in early 2024. Terminal 4 will become the largest aircraft passenger terminal in Indonesia with a capacity of up to 40 million passengers per year,” said Muhammad Awaluddin.
The design of Terminal 4 design also accommodates input from various stakeholders such as regulators, airlines, and other airport operational supporters through a number of activities such as focus group discussions (FGDs) as held today.
Today’s FGD titled NEXT Terminal of Airport 4.0 presents KSO Karya Bersama Nusantara representatives, Aeroports de Paris (ADP), Indonesian Architect Association (IAI), Indonesian Airport Expert Association (IABI), Ministry of Transportation, airlines, and other stakeholders.
“Terminal 4 must accommodate future needs, because it was built in 2020 and only opened in 2024. We cannot think what is needed now, but must predict exactly what is needed by the traveler and the aviation industry in 2024 so that Terminal 4 can be very reliable in improve air connectivity in Indonesia, “said Muhammad Awaluddin in the FGD NEXT Terminal of Airport 4.0. NEXT terminology itself means: New Experience through (X) Technology.
“Terminal 4 development clearly leads to advanced technology with the concept of smart environment, smart mobility and smart security.”
Muhammad Awaluddin said the concept of smart environment must be adjusted to the conditions in Indonesia and not necessarily imitate what is applied abroad. “What is clear is that it must support the use of new and renewable energy.
Meanwhile, related to smart mobility, Terminal 4 provides many self-check-in counters, self-baggage drop, and supports other technologies such as mobile check-in and other facilities in accordance with the current trend of travelers who prefer to process flight departures independently rather than having to come to the check-in counter.
Regarding smart security, Terminal 4 will implement smart CCTV and full body x-ray scanners and other latest security equipment.
In addition, Muhammad Awaluddin also stressed that the construction of Terminal 4 must be easy and ready to accommodate the latest information technology infrastructure and anticipate the dynamic development of technology going forward.
“Every technology must be easily and cheaply used so Terminal 4 can accommodate the needs of the traveler and operate effectively,” Muhammad Awaluddin explained.
Meanwhile, KSO Karya Bersama Nusantara Representative Tommy Susetio said that FGDs would be held in order to accommodate suggestions from all stakeholders related to the formulation of Terminal 4 design.
“Currently Terminal 4 is prepared for domestic and international flights and can accommodate up to 40 million passengers. But of course we will file again based on available input. There will be many FGDs, and plenaries, which proposals will be accepted and which will be compromised. ”
“What is clear is that the passenger terminal of the aircraft must prioritize passenger flow. If the flow of passengers is smooth, it will have an impact on both the commercial and operational sides, “said Tommy Susetio.
Terminal 4 covering an area of 400,000 square meters is projected to be able to serve up to 40 million passengers per year. Terminal 1 and 2 later after revitalization each will have a capacity of up to 20 million passengers per year. Meanwhile, Terminal 3 has a capacity of 25 million passengers per year.
So, with Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4 later Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year.
In the future Terminal 4 development plan, technological innovations that will be carried out include the use of artificial intelligence, internet of things, big data analytics, roboting, automation, virtual reality to augmented reality.
“Through the development of Soekarno Hatta International Airport Terminal 4, Angkasa Pura II will help push the performance of the national airport and the aviation industry to a higher level than now, not dwelling on conventional matters. We want to realize a new era based on digital infrastructure in airport services, “Awaluddin said.
